What are Raptors
The word Raptor comes from the latin word "rapere" which means to seize or plunder. Today it is loosely used to describe a particular group of carnivorous (meat eating) birds also known as birds of prey. They are found throughout the world except for Antartica and a few remote islands.
Falconry or Hawking
This is a trained sport which involves the use of trained raptors (birds of prey) to hunt or pursue game for humans.
Birds
There are several categories of raptor that could possibly be used in falconry such as :
Broadwings, these are buzzards, hawks and eagles.
Shortwings, these are Sparrow Hawks and Goshawks.
Long Wings, these are Falcons.
